Answers

1. Where is Burton Manor?

Burton Manor is on the south side of I-96 expressway at 27777 Schoolcraft, Livonia, MI. For a map, see Mapquest or MapsOnUs.

2. What companies are going to be there?

Click HERE for the latest updates.

3. How should I dress?

It is strongly recommended that you dress professionally for any interview. Note: A conservative approach is recommended. Looking fashionable is important, but looking like you mean business is even more important. Below are some standard guidelines for interviewing attire.

4. What should I bring?

It is recommended that you bring 20-25 copies of your résumé on high quality paper as well as a reliable pen. If applicable, also bring a portfolio or a sample of your work to demonstrate your skills.

5. Will I meet recruiters?

Recruiters may see 100 or more candidates at the MCJF. Consequently, they take special measures to remember the "stand out" candidates. Keep in mind that anytime you meet potential employers, you are being evaluated - even if the meeting lasts only a minute or two. This is why first impressions are so critical.

6. What's the best way to optimize my time?

There are several ways to optimize your time at the MCJF:

  • Check the Employer List for updates; target and research desired companies ahead of time
  • Prioritize companies; determine which ones are worth the wait
  • Arrive early to avoid long lines at popular companies
  • Visit companies with shorter lines to find new/unadvertised career opportunities.
7. Why do I have to pay a registration fee?
Candidate registration fees are used for the rental of Burton Manor, marketing costs and other fair-related expenses. Any excess revenues go back into the MCJF to support the next event.

8. How likely am I to get a job offer?

On average, one candidate out of two report receiving follow-up interviews after the fair and one out of four candidates report receiving a job offer. Additionally, when recently asked of recruiters whether or not they have hired candidates from the MCJF, 80% responded "yes."

    9. What about parking?

There is plenty of free parking at Burton Manor (the entrance doors are in the southwest corner).

10. What candidates/academic majors are employers seeking?

Please see Employer List to view positions/majors sought by recruiters at the upcoming fair.

11. Am I eligible to participate?

Students and graduates of any two- or four-year institution are welcome to attend. The MCJF is primarily targeted toward new college graduates and recent alumni seeking entry-level, professional employment. Some employers may offer opportunities for internships, cooperative education and advanced positions as well.

12. Why is my résumé collected when I register?

Résumés are collected in order to report to participating colleges and universities the number of students/alumni attending the fair.
